Evaluation Question 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
our media product has the conventions of a detective film. when we were thinking of our genre we had to create a suspicious opening to grab people's attentions before the film even started.as we were aiming it at the young adults (16-20 years) we had to base it around a character around that age. we used quite a lot of different camera angles and shots. in the beginning of the movie, we used a bit of match on action with her feet. instead of seeing the whole body moving, we made sure we focused on her feet.this gave you suspicion of who this mystery character was.then as the movie continued we decided to allow the viewers to watch what we saw. that way it created the feeling of a bystander. as we were meeting the character that is Mr Myles, we decided that the first shot of our mystery man should be an over the shoulder shot. this creates more mystery to the whole film as people would like to find out who this mystery man is and what he is doing. then we went back to the bystander watching all this happen.

the variety of camera shots show all the different settings that we are using. this is good because it allows people to see what is going on in the background and get a feel for what is happening in the movie. setting the scene is important because if the viewers are not sure of where it is set they could get confused and turn the film off. Our film opening is set in a nice residential area and in "Aimee's " house. we chose these settings as we thought this would give us a good backdrop for the opening.

unfortunately lighting was a problem. Because of the season it got dark quickly and we had to film before and after the Christmas holiday. we were filming straight after school so we would get the last of the daylight, this became a problem because we would have some parts slightly darker than others. Really we wanted it to be around  dark but as it was getting darker later that would mean working at 5-6 pm when people couldn't work on the film at that time.  unfortunately after a curtain date we couldn't film so some parts had to stay with slight darkness.

on our titles the writing is red to try to get the feel of the detective genre. the reason behind this was because when the writing is red people tend to group it with blood. we helped to fit it in to the titles by making the writing look like blood. people would be attracted to this because they would wonder why the titles were set out like the way they are.
